Description: A dungeon-crawling card game

I’ve been working on and off on this project for a bit now. Since this is a personal project of mine, I have less time to spend on it than the projects I do for school. I’ve been wanting to make a physical game for a while, and one of my subjects inspired me to actually start one.

X player card game

Something that I have seen a rise of in card and board games in the last years, is the option for a single-player experience. I’ve played a few of these games myself and I’ve really been eager to make one myself. So, this game will be playable from 1-4 players. If played with multiple people, they can choose at any time to play cooperatively or against each other. You don’t have to play nicely.

The premise

The basic premise of the game is to defeat a great monster to gather its treasure. One that you alone, or with a few friends, assemble together. You accomplish that by going through dungeons, with each dungeon increasing in difficulty. After a dungeon is completed, you add another random body part to the monster, making it stronger. Every body part is unique and will add different effects, powerups or abilities to the monster.

The dungeons that you go through are also randomly generated. Because when you first step into the dungeon, it doesn’t exist yet. Every time you walk into a hallway or through a door, you will add a new random tile to the play area. These tiles will look something like the header image above. (But of course, better-looking than a sketch)

Design challenges

The main design challenge I want to overcome in this project is the physical aspect of it. I want the game to come in a small box, so that it is easy to travel around with. That means that the cards or game pieces have to mean different things in different situations, otherwise you’re just going to end up with a ginormous box.

This project is far from done and is still in its early development stages.
